I went there to get some help on paper that I wanted to get looked over. There old paper I got from my divorce and child support and want to ask questions. The lady told me to write my info down and everything. She left to the room next over. She told the lady in the office I was there to get some help and she ask what did I need help with and and the secretary took idk she complaining about her ex-husband with child support. And I'm just sitting there I can hear everything. She closes the door and said she'll be with me in a few. I told the secretary I had to go I dropped of the papers and never went back. If someone going to talk bad about someone do it in private, it rude and disrespectful. I got my feeling hurt. So I have never went back it's been 2 years
Avoid Legal Aid – Especially If You’re a Single Mom! I had a terrible experience with Legal Aid and attorney McDonald. From the very start, she never even got my name correct on official documents, which showed a complete lack of attention to detail. Communication was a nightmare—I could never speak to her directly. Every time I called, I had to go through the receptionist, who would relay messages to her, and then she would email me instead of just taking my calls. During mediation, she told me not to bring up the domestic violence in my marriage because, according to her, "the judge doesn’t care." That was beyond disappointing and completely unacceptable. Instead of fighting for me and my daughter, she pushed me into making a decision just to get things over with because she was too lazy to do her job. I felt completely unsupported during one of the most important moments of my life. If you are a single mom going through a divorce, DO NOT choose Legal Aid. You deserve an attorney who actually cares and will fight for you, and unfortunately, that was not my experience at all.
I've been to that legal aid place twice both times I was there I was told by somebody behind the desk that they cannot help me get my daughter back they did not even look at the custody papers I have or the child's birth certificate they told me that since another party came to the legally before me that they can't help I do not understand that like why should that matter if another party came before me now I am the one that has full custody of my daughter damn why a person can't look at some papers what is so hard about that Legal aid does not help at all they pick and choose who they're going to help the places that I went to of legal aid are called Family Legal Servi And legal aid of West Texas I would recommend that anybody that is trying to get their child back not to go to Legal Aid because if you're not dressed a certain way or if another party went there before you they're not going to help you they don't care about the child make you out to be the bad person when really they all they need to do is look at the papers which is not that hard
Very Disappointed. To be fair, I originally contacted them awhile back as I was referred to this service by The American Cancer Society. The first time through they were respectful, and they went through screening process and determined they could NOT assist me on civil issues I was looking to seek counsel for. They told me at that time, their primary focus was on helping Texans that were eligible to secure SSI benefits. I had no issue whatsoever with this, and thanked them, reaching out to the Texas Bar for previous needs. My recent encounter was disheartening and I felt disrespected. I have applied for SSI benefits over 16mos ago, and have done so by myself to date. (Aside from initial app that was completed by state employee) This has proved to be much more challenging than expected. I recalled my original screening, and I am now at the point of needing assistance solely for SSI benefits and felt I would be right in their wheelhouse. I called promptly at 9am, and was told that they were already at maximum capacity and did not have anyone available to speak with, but they would call me right back. I waited until 11:30am. I had not received a call, so I called them back. I explained I had originally called at 9am, and had not received a callback. The receptionist was short with me and said "oh yeah, is this "My Full Name.?" I confirmed. She said "we can't help you do to a conflict of interest." Obviously, I was taken back. I asked if she could provide me details. She repeated the same phrase. I said I was told previously that y'all help primarily with SSI disability benefits and I don't understand what possible conflict there could be. Again, she repeated the same phrase and it was highly insulting to my intelligence, and the tone in her voice was apathetic and impatient. I just felt this was very unprofessional and left me highly confused. Even if their was a legitimate conflict, I strongly feel that I should have received a call back from screening as promised. At the least, I felt an attorney or someone more qualified than receptionist could have returned my call and explained things in some detail. Even if they could only provide same quote regarding "conflict of interest." They definitely could have explained why that was the most detail they could offer me. I think programs such as this, potentially help many people and it's difficult to criticize such programs. But at the end of the day, I was nothing but courteous and patient. I would expect that the same professionalism to be reciprocated. If I am wrong, or if my ignorance is to blame, I will gladly come back and edit my rating to some degree.
I called to get information on how to go about a legal situation and the receptionist there with the name of ROSA was very rude and unprofessional like im new to the situation and I was trying to get guided on what I needed to do next not everyone knows how the legal ofc works its your job to be understanding and show some kind of sympathy and actually listen and guide me in the correct direction not talk over me and tell me to call another ofc
I was living at wps and tried to get a protective order. The whole reason for being at wps was privacy. The lawyer, I believe her last name was Kidd couldn't even remember the details I had spoken to her about the case. To add icing to the cake tne person I was there found out where I was because of my(lawyer)🙄🙄
The turn over rate is really high which males the process really slow. Other than that they do really well. All employees give 100% despite their changing staff often.
