We had a very surprising experience with Mr. Dave Neubeck of Elder Law Offices in Bellingham. We contacted their office to schedule a consultation to discuss Trust options. We found Joshua at the front desk to be professional and responsive. He immediately sent us paperwork to complete, scheduled an appointment and advised us as to the estimated cost of the consultation. We delivered paperwork in advance of the appointment and met Joshua in person. He was helpful, personable and professional. We then met Mr. Neubeck on our scheduled appointment day. He was on time, cordial and very easy to speak with. My family member and I were not lost in the conversation at all (as we have been in the past with another attorney). Mr. Neubeck was straight-forward, knowledgeable and direct. He offered sound advice and did not try to "sell" us anything. In fact, he saved us a lot of money and advised that we did not need what we thought we would need his help with. He could have easily deceived us and collected money for something we ultimately don't require. Instead, Mr. Neubeck graciously spent well over 30 minutes with us and at the end he said he was not going to charge us for the consultation. We were absolutely floored. I've dealt with a few attorneys over the years but I have never encountered one who did not bill us for their time. We left a bit in shock and very impressed. Thank you, Mr. Neubeck. My mother called to ask a simple question about a will we had made up my Elder Law for my grandma. The man she talked with was EXTREMELY rude and insensitive. My grandmother had just passed away. If he couldn’t help us with this simple question, he couldn’t have just said so. Instead he decided to be insulting and talk down to her. Very disappointed, wish we would have gone with a different firm.

**Policy requires payment before basic service information** I contacted this firm to inquire about estate planning. Their policy requires a $275 consultation fee before they will provide any fee estimates or identify which attorney would handle the case. When I requested a ballpark cost range (even a wide one) and asked to know which attorney I'd be working with, I was told they are "forbidden and unqualified" to provide this information without payment first (and even said that no attorneys would do this). I understand attorneys’ time is valuable and that every case is unique, but it’s perfectly reasonable for a potential client to want at least a rough idea of fees and who they’d be working with before committing to a paid session. Many reputable estate planning attorneys in Washington do provide this information, and it’s a basic expectation in most professional fields. This policy raises transparency concerns for me as a client. While the firm may be competent, prospective clients should be aware they will not receive any basic information on fees, billing structure, or attorney assignment unless they first pay for a consultation. In my experience, other local firms are more forthcoming and client-friendly in their approach.

If you need advice on how to legally setup your legal documents as you she, this is the agency you want to talk to. They are friendly and informative. They will explain all the options available to you. I have dealt with them for five years and been very satisfied with the way they setup all of my necessary paperwork for a person with a chronic disease.
