I am so grateful for the very capable team at Platt and Westby that assisted me recently. My original call was with Andy and he was wonderful. I then had the pleasure of having Abe litigate my arbitration which went very well and ended in my favor. I also had lovely contact with Allie and Patrick. A class act all around and I highly recommend them. I cannot thank them enough!
I can’t say enough good things about the attorneys at Platt & Westby. I first retained the firm to assist with a Partition Action. This case was also complicated by a separate family case, which I had a different firm representing me. Abe, Andy, and Amber all helped simplify my case for me. They were very knowledgeable and strategic with their approach. Everything was well explained. After the partition action case was complete, I retained P&W for a collections case. My family case ended up back in court so I retained them a third time, for my family case, (the case that a previous firm represented me for). P&W has made an impact on me and I’m grateful for that. That’s why they have my business. Throughout all of this, I’ve never felt like just another number, or another client. I truly feel my attorneys have vested themselves with each of my cases and there is no feeling like knowing you’re in good hands. I know I have a great advocate with P&W. I feel they have went above and beyond for me. There is no doubt in my mind that if I ever need another attorney to represent me, I will be calling P&W. I would highly recommend P&W to anyone that needs representation.
We paid P/W OVER $92,000.00 in 33 months & they’re still fighting us via "Fee Arbitration" for another $22,500.00 they claim we owe them. But, after CAREFULLY REVIEWING ALL OF THEIR MONTHLY BILLS, they actually owe us a refund in excess of $48,000.00- which they’re lying about. This is long but worth reading: In August 2021, we signed a contract with P. Westby to provide experienced real estate attorneys to represent us in what turned out to be a very complicated case! Instead of providing competent, experienced licensed attorneys, Peter & the very nasty Andy Rahtz, repeatedly stuck us w/ new law grads, some not even licensed! ie:G. Davis had graduated from lawschool & then did pass his AZ Bar exam, but hadn’t yet been issued a license. While "happy" 4 the KID (with zero experience), our case was 32 months old,multi-state & international & we needed better, not new attorneys. Until then,we’d been led to believe our primary attorney, Alex K.,had over 5 yrs of working in real estate law. In truth, she’d had a license for about 1 yr & had been with P/W for about 6 months when Peter assigned her our case in 2021. Alex wasn’t properly supervised & lied to us multiple times about her "numerous settlement" dealings with one of the opposing counsels. (In fact, she’d had none). Her & paralegal’s inexperience missed deadlines, allowed opposing counsels to manipulate schedules-without our knowledge or permission. & they repeatedly provided us with extremely unprofessional & grossly incompetent work. Consequently we were continually doing our own rewrites & research. And whatever P. Westby recommended we do to help our case, like hire an expensive forensic structural & electrical engineering firm or hire expensive Private Investigator(s), we did. We shelled out money whenever necessary in order to help them support our case. And finally, we had to hire a very expensive law firm in TX (in order to manage a portion of the suit that was occurring in TX) (we used the firm P/W suggested) & they charged $1550.00 per hour - so think about that when you read all the nice reviews that claim they paid P/W a whopping $500-$3,000.00. WOW, we paid an average of up to $6,000. a month for P/W’s crappy work. We complained about all the substantive & grammatical errors, & Peter would kindly reply that 1): the firm never charges for correcting errors (except they do - & in our case one lousy paralegal, Luisa, charged us in excess of $15,000.00 overall). Or 2): he’d say maybe we’d be happier going to a different law firm. He initially suggested that -within just a few months of accepting our case & initial deposit of $7,500.00. We’re well educated but were also swamped with the City’s mandatory remediation work lasting 24/7 for almost four years. It’s almost impossible at age 71 & 75) to help construction & then spend another 1-3 hours pouring over the lousy legal products they’d generate. Whenever we’d "discover" something pertinent they’d missed, they’d argue & tell us we were "stupid." But then our attorney in TX would miraculously get the lien or writ & protect us. They either purposely slow-walked our case for almost 3.0 years, one that could have been settled or tried in court w/in 2 years. When we finally learned what the firm was doing w/ the new grads, we opted to switch to another firm, ASAP. Andy promised a "very smooth/seamless transition." What a joke! The files P/W transferred were a mess & extremely time consuming for our new firm to decipher. So over 4 years, charging us well over $120,000.00, P/W did almost zero to represent us. Our new attorney basically had to start over, because Westby’s files were a mess. We attempted to file sanctions against Peter Westby because we don’t think he has the mental acuity to manage complicated cases. Peter & Andy Rahtz both lied to the AZ State Bar, claiming Peter had "little to no knowledge" of our case & that most had been supervised by Andy. YET: monthly bills reflect Peter’s direct involvement (sometimes daily) & those same bills show a total absence of Andy’s work. They have no integrity.
I can’t express enough gratitude for the incredible work attorney Matthew Hayes did on my case. From the very beginning, he demonstrated unparalleled professionalism, compassion, and determination. Despite my prior felony, he managed to achieve what I thought was impossible—getting me into a diversion program. I know how slim the chances were, but Mr. Hayes believed in my case and fought tirelessly to make it happen. What truly stood out was how seamless he made the entire process. I didn’t have to step foot in court even once—he handled every appearance for me. He kept me informed every step of the way, and I always felt like I was in capable, trustworthy hands. As we approached trial, his strategic expertise and negotiation skills were evident. He managed to settle the case out of court right before trial, sparing me a long, stressful ordeal. His efforts not only gave me a second chance but also restored my hope in the legal system. If you’re looking for an attorney who is knowledgeable, dedicated, and truly invested in getting the best outcome for his clients, look no further than Matthew Hayes. He goes above and beyond, and I couldn’t recommend him more highly! Thank you, Matt!
I was referred to Andy Rahtz by an Attorney/Friend that was retiring. Andy and his team were able to handle my case and get results. Friendly, Professional and Informative....my first choice when in need ! Thanks Platt & Westby !!
In all fairness, I can't speak for the rest of the law firm but this review pertains to the individual who took my call, I believe it was Mr. Westby. I was calling for legal advice because I uncovered a scheme of fraudulent operations between two businesses entities in Arizona and California. The corporation is defrauding Arizonans by not registering his LLCs as foreign entities. I was given ten minutes attention just to be told that I am basically too broke and poor income and I would not receive help. My denial was not about a legitimate case but rather, why bother with poor disabled people. I have moved on to other firms but in all fairness, have respect for individuals and don't dumb them down to less than nothing without rights just because of money.
As a real estate investor, there are always issues that come up that can create a lot of stress but getting solid legal advice has proven to be incredibly helpful. After talking with Mr. Westby, I have a lot more confidence in my situation. He knew the law very well, presented viable options for how I could move forward, listened so well and attentively, and responded with empathy and kindness. If you are a real estate investor looking for good legal counsel, I would highly recommend giving Platt & Westby a call to discuss your situation with them. Thank you Mr. Westby! I am grateful for the time you spent with me.
