Sadly to say I did six months in jail before bonding out to consult the State bar of Texas about communication with this law firm and about their refusal to file my appeal. After informing the law firm of my interaction with the State bar of Texas my appellate's brief was filed within three business days, which could have been the situation several months ago, not to mention that I didn't have any visits with my attorney while confined. Nonetheless, after informing attorney Abe Factor of the State bar of Texas by email my appellate's brief was instantly prepared within 3 days and filed. THE APPELLATE'S BRIEF WAS AWESOME!!! Sadly, I was forced to bond myself out to make this happen, luckily I had a bond, otherwise I would still be confined with no appellate's brief filed, possibly me getting lost in the system. Thank you very much STATE BAR of TEXAS for bringing out the best in my court appointed attorney with an awesome brief. Yet I can only give one star for the character of the firm for not taking people's lives seriously!! BUT OF COURSE IT CAN BE CHANGED LATER!!

Abe came highly recommended as an appeal attorney for my son. I've called several times for updates on the appeal process and did not get a return call until it was on the news that both appeals where denied. When I asked about it he stated that we are still waiting to hear from the supreme Court. Lies.. Once again I asked months later regarding the supreme Court's decision and still no call back. I have spent so much money with this man to file two appeals . He has been rude and short. I've been lied to by his office members stating he wasn't in the office and he was. It's understandable that he has other cases, but if a person is paying $15,000 just to file an appeal, you would think the person will make time to conversate with you regarding the case and at least keep you updated on the work that he is doing. If I can do it all over again I will find someone much cheaper with a lot more compassion.

Although the firm is listed under Abe Factor, I primarily worked with attorney Andrew Stillmon Baker, and unfortunately, my experience was extremely frustrating and unprofessional. After completing my labor detail in August 2024, Mr. Baker specifically advised me that I could turn in my handheld breathalyzer device. When I attempted to do so, Smart Start informed me that they could not accept the device without an affidavit signed by the judge. I communicated this clearly to Mr. Baker, but he told me to "just leave it there and nothing would happen." And would go back and forth with me when I expressed that they wouldn’t allow me to and I was uncomfortable to do so despite repeatedly explaining how Smart Start’s process works, my concerns were dismissed.Months later, when I finally received an affidavit, it was for the removal of an ignition interlock—not the handheld device I had. I explained multiple times that I did not have a car and he knew of that and needed the proper affidavit for the handheld unit, but I was repeatedly ignored or given conflicting and unclear information. Every time I called the office, the staff seemed confused, unhelpful, or gave me contradictory explanations that only added to my frustration. At one point, I was told a document was mailed to me, only to receive a call minutes later saying it was still at the office and needed to be picked up(which I did at the time) After ten months, I am still being charged by Smart Start for a device I have tried to return but cannot , simply because the legal office continues to mishandle the situation. I’ve had to start recording conversations due to the constant miscommunication and excuses. It is unacceptable that an attorney would advise a client to take actions that are not in line with legal procedures, especially when it could have serious consequences for me as the client. To make matters worse, Mr. Baker had shown up late to court appearances—so late that on one occasion I was told I might have to wait until after the court’s lunch break. This experience has been stressful and disheartening. I strongly advise others to be cautious when considering this attorney and avoid him at all cost if you can. Seek representation from someone who will take your case seriously, communicate effectively, and act in your best interest because now I feel like this is a never ending cycle even though they constantly drop the ball and I’ve done what I needed to do.
