New Leaf Legal LLC

I have worked with New Leaf Legal for over a decade. They are, in my opinion, one of Boston's "hidden jewels" for small businesses. In my case, as a Professor, I was starting a company and I wanted an attorney to represent me as an individual (indemnifications and such). A different law office in Boston quoted me ~$5K simply to look over and edit the docs that the VCs and the University had drafted. New Leaf Legal was much more affordable, but most importantly took the time to help me understand the content and implications of the documents. Jessica and her team were su supportive throughout the entire process. More recently I worked with Jessica to found an LLC. Again, she took the time to explain the process and what factors I should consider in deciding between and LLC and and Inc. I have worked with several firms, large and small, and in my opinion any small or medium business would be well served to work with the New Leaf Legal team. I want to give a quick shoutout to Jessica Manganello of New Leaf Legal. I shopped around for quite awhile to try to find a lawyer I could trust who wouldn't cost me my firstborn child. A friend recommended Jessica to me a few years ago and she's been my go-to legal help ever since. She gets things done efficiently, thoroughly, and she actually cares! Can't recommend her enough.

New Leaf came as a referral from our local SBA provider as a firm who could quickly work on our articles of formation and other legal paperwork to get us set up to become a legit LLC. We let them know that we had contracts in place that required us to move quickly. After a week of back and forth over email (we signed a proposal sent by the Jess but never got acknowledgement of receipt until after one week and 2 follow up calls when we got hold of an assistant, Rose on the phone). My team and I became uneasy about this and decided not to pay in full because we did not trust they would get the work done if paid in full. That said, we paid 75% of the requested fee thinking that would make them a bit more responsive. Boy, were we wrong! We made the payment, they just disappeared on us. For 3 weeks, our team contacted them but got no response. After both phone and email contact, we got a very defensive response from Jess. Our request- provide us with the work you have done plus a timeline of completion for the work that is still outstanding and we would pay the outstanding balance. That is when got a barrage of defensive emails, never responding to our request but asking us for payment. This is when our team decided to terminate our agreement with New Leaf and look elsewhere. Our assessment- New Leaf depends on high volume business to survive. They don't have the capacity to work efficiently hence why they continue press payment and lack in customer service department. Here's a direct quote from one of the co-founders of our business, "They were so rude, unprofessional and also refused to refund us our money. You can use their service, but do that at your own risk. They may just keep you in limbo for weeks and when you finally confront them, they will act unprofessional towards you and seize your funds."
