We hired Michael Balian in 2014 to represent my son in a Minor of Possession case while my son was a senior in High School. I was very disappointed in the unprofessional manner in which the case was handled and the final outcome. Unfortunately, Mr Balian looks the part, but in my opinion was incompetent as an attorney. He seemed unfamiliar with this type of law and after meeting with him and providing him with several details of the case, he appeared in court unprepared and unfamiliar with the circumstances surrounding the case. What startled me most is he began to stutter and was very nervous when it was his turn to address the judge. Making a father and son's nightmare an even bigger disaster. He had the facts wrong and as a result my son was as given a very harsh sentence which prevented him from going on his senior class trip and attending college out of state his freshmen year. When I spoke to other attorneys who were experienced in handling MIP cases, they informed me that I was misrepresented and that they have never seen such a harsh penalty administered on a high school senior. Of course, Mr. Balian received payment and moved onto the next case without showing any empathy or disappointment in the outcome.
