Went to get a consultation from Janette for child support. She answered all my questions and then some. Provided paperwork I needed, broke down necessary answers I needed to put on my paperwork and pointed me in the right direction to get my case moving in a timely manner. I came to Janette 2 years ago. I was in a toxic and volatile marriage and needed an attorney. Janette supported me throughout my entire Temporary Restraining Order hearings and child custody hearings. Twice I made the decision to try and work it out and drop the TROs Janette never judged me, always offered the very best advice in moving forward and when I finally made the decision to not waiver in my decision to leave for good and move all the way through with a permanent RO she was there to hold my hand and give me the confidence and assurance that I could do it and my truth would prevail. I won my hearing for a permanent RO and I received 100% sole and legal custody of my kiddos. I also hired her as my divorce lawyer. She’s not just a lawyer she’s my friend for life. I had a very frustrating experience with Attorney Janette Magdalena's office. After agreeing in early July 2024 to help reunite me with my children and adjust my income statement due to a disability from a car accident, I paid the full fee upfront and provided all necessary documents. Unfortunately, when I finally had a status update meeting on October 17th—after it was delayed multiple times—it became clear that no work had been done on my case. The entire hour was spent discussing elementary steps rather than any real progress. When I inquired about billable hours, I learned that there had been zero work completed. It’s incredibly disappointing to have hired someone for a straightforward task and realize that no action has been taken after months of waiting. Communication was poor, and my concerns felt dismissed. This lack of progress and transparency is not what I expected when hiring an attorney. I strongly advise others to be cautious when considering this law office, as my experience has been nothing short of negligence. I asked for an income adjustment and to write a letter to the judge stating she isn't participating in court ordered therapy.

Janette says she’s cost efficient or her work is "discounted" to make clients believe they’re getting a deal but in reality you’ll be paying more in the long run. It takes her twice the time to draft a boilerplate documentation when a seasoned attorney, who charges a higher hourly rate, would overall cost less. Janette will say she is being thorough but it’s called inexperience. I thought anyone could handle my parentage case because it literally required no litigation and it only needed to be in writing. I was wrong. Janette received my case in February. A month later, I initiated contact because I had not heard from her and I wanted a temporary agreement in writing for Easter. After my initiation, great, she agreed to meet with me. After our meeting she tells me she’ll draft it up and get it to me asap for review. Easter passes and I still hadn’t received a draft to review. In June, I initiate contact again and I ask to review the draft of judgment. She then sends me said draft. The draft did not include some of the items I wanted and it also included items that weren’t necessary. Fine, I send my edits back to her. I don’t hear anything in return. Next thing I know, I’m billed 2.5 hours for edits! Edits! Keep in mind she initially charged 1.5 hours to draft the judgment. My edits were minor and simply add, remove. And I never received a copy of the edits; no work product provided for those 2.5 hour edits. When I raised my concern for the outrageous billing, she claimed it takes her 5-6 hours to draft a judgment. Inquiring with other local family law attorneys, it should take maybe 3 hours for drafting a judgment and that includes some back and forth to fine tune language between counsel. She never even made contact with the opposing counsel in my case. She tried to tell me that my prior attorney took most of the retainer. After calculations, she took more than my prior attorney and did less. Money down the drain.
