While searching for an immigration lawyer for my friend, I had emailed 3 local lawyers. 2 of them (1 being Cao) responded with the same cold language: "You have to pay $350 (Cao's fee, the other guy's fee is $250) to schedule a consultation, and then we will be happy to answer your questions." In response, I asked Cao: Ok, the client pays $350 to have a consultation with you. What if after you look at my friend's case, you tell her you can not help her. Does the client get any refund from the $350? Of course, Cao's answer is no. But on the other hand, a different female lawyer gave me great, helpful info, even when she knew she could not take my friend's case and we did not have to pay her a dollar. I gave her a five stars review here at Yelp, and I don't give out five stars lightly. In fact, I do a lot translation work for a successful, local criminal-defense attorney. He often spends a little bit of time to review new cases. If he cannot take the case, he explains to the people (non-English speakers with me translating) on the phone why he's not going to take their case, then gives them referral. All that for no charge! I guess that contributes to why he is so successful! A little bit of kindness goes a long way!!!
