I recently won a case against Smith that I filed with my bank for repeated unauthorized charges against my credit card in a legal matter in which I was the payer and responsible financial party for his client . The case was adjudicated by the USBank fraud department and found in my favor. $1500 was returned to me while another $3000 in unauthorized and non itemized charges were blocked by my bank card's security features. Smith should not be anywhere near a court of law. Do not engage him as an attorney under any circumstances. His rating should be minus 5 stars. One is too generous for an attorney who demonstrated total incompetence, lack of concern, along with serious lapses in ethical judgment.
Ed was advertised as an unbundled lawyer. I requested his assistance for a family member and he does not communicate, randomly charges thousands of dollars at a time, and is overall not an empathetic person. Would not recommend him for any family situation and I believe he violates the entirety of unbundled lawyers. If I could give 0 stars I would.
I was going through a very ugly divorce and my now ex wife was fighting for everything she could. She was wanting alimony, half my retirement, half of my property you name it and we were only married for a year. She even put a restraining order because I was abusing her when eventually was proven that she was the abuser. Mr. Smith helped me through this who process and I won all my cases. I beat the restraining order case which he had one of his colleagues represent me and we won. After that I won my divorce case to where my ex wife got nothing and had 2 months to vacate my house or would be arrested. Mr. Smith is a great attorney and was willing to work out a payment plan with me for his services. It was a long process but as long as you keep in contact with him he will take care of you as he is a very busy man. I am very grateful for him representing me and I would recommend him to any future clients. Thank you again Edward Smith
RUN! I wish I read the reviews before hiring Ed Smith. During the Pandemic my wife contracted him for me and my mother. We wanted a Living Trust set up, and due to living on Maui, we needed this done via Video Chat, and told them it needed done quickly while Mom’s cognitive skills were still there but feared decline. The Trust never got done. Unfortunately, my mother wanted everything under mine and my wife’s name. I didn’t feel comfortable with this having siblings, even though siblings were not there for her. Not once did Ed or his office communicate with my mother, and I didn’t want to be the one who took care of his mother using his wife full time to physically care for her, and being thought of only doing it for the money. The Trust never happened, she passed, and kicking myself for not listening to mom’s wishes. She knew I’d do the right thing. After sometime of her passing I contacted the office and explained that they never did the Trust, and was told the the Thousands of dollars I paid could go towards Probate. Unfortunately, things got ugly, to day is Court, and my sister will be named in charge of the Probate. I explained that my mother wanted me to be in charge knowing that I would do the right thing. My sister had hired a lawyer and I wanted Ed to fight for me to be in charge. His recommendation was to let my sister sell one of the properties. Feeling like I had my hands tied, I reluctantly agreed knowing I needed to fire him. Even after paying him off nearly $10,000 and saying’we are finished!’, he contacted not only me, but the court system telling them I said to sell the property, which wasn’t my wish. Ed gets Paid either way, Win or Lose, and feeling like a loser, almost regretting all that I had done for my mother and brother, to be stabbed in the back by family. No regrets, I did it for them, and only hoped that his children and my siblings would appreciate all I have done, giving both of them the best possible final times. Ed Smith charged me for the Trust, the Probate, and then several other charges were made. These other charges were never discussed, never sent, and actually I believe were written and back dated after I had accidentally forwarded him a letter stating that he was no good and needed to be replaced. These other charges were never mailed, emailed, or discussed. Today is court, my sister will be in charge, and selling 3 houses to the cheapest bidder. I also had hoped to go through my childhood home and save some memories. After taking care of not only my mother at the end, but my brother who battled cancer I’ve discovered that no good deed goes unpunished. Families can be awful. Get your affairs in order. If you are reading this review RUN! * Note* the 5 star reviews must be paid reviews. Read them all, and RUN!
Its funny that "Jay Star" had such a fantastic outcome. I hired Mr. Edward Smith for an almost identical situation back in September of last year. I paid him 5k out of the 7500 he asked for to still be married to this day and trying to figure it out myself. Not one time did I feel like he was on my side. He went to court with me one time for 4 hours (we had to wait our turn), answered a few phone calls and texts, and set up mediation for 5k. I pay 20$ a month for chatGPT and already understand 1000% how to do this process then when he was my attorney. It was like pulling teeth to get info on what to do next. DO NOT HIRE THIS GUY!!!!!!! I gave him 1 star only because it wouldn't let me post this with 0. Hes going to respond with something like "SC you are very aware with the situation with your case..... these allegations are simply not true. Blah Blah. Do your job and maybe you wouldn't be struggling with your rating on google. (update 30 Apr 2025) I formally called to discontinue his services so that I could represent my self. If the attorney you hire to represent you no longer is needed, you must ask them to formally withdraw from your case. I did that two weeks ago and he has not done it yet. The proceeds to send me a stock email to catch up because he hasn't heard from me in a while. Most likely because I haven't given him any more money. When I responded to the email saying please withdraw from my case like I asked two weeks ago, I was replied with a message discussing facts about another case they he had nothing to do with and proceed to tell me how it wasn't his fault. I didn't ask for your counsel on that. Please withdraw from my case NLT 1 May 2025 so that I may be able to represent my self. You are affecting my livelihood. If it continues I will escalate to the Bar association.
I paid him THOUSANDS of dollars to get divorced and after 16 months of "representation" the case was dismissed and NOTHING changed. I was still married to an abusive husband that was actually incarcerated when the case was thrown out. He did a horrible job representing me!!! He failed to do what he promised was a simple process, after paying him approximately $2,000 a month for 16 months. I’m military and had to PCS before the divorce could be finalized. I provided him with ALL the necessary paperwork and Edward Smith still missed simple deadlines which created fines from the court. It also created animosity in the court room. Which in my opinion caused the judge to not take my case seriously. I had to fly back to Hawaii in July 2023 because he told me that if I was to be physically present in court and my ex was not there, then it would default in my favor. This was not the case. I was there, my ex was not, and the case was dismissed as if nothing ever happened. I flew back to Hawaii from Virginia, and the case was thrown out. When I returned to home to Virginia I filed again and had to redo the entire process on my own because I was out of money. I essentially taught myself how to file for divorce, resubmitted all the divorce paperwork in Virginia, had my ex served, gained full custody of my two boys, successfully had a restraining order put on my ex and was divorced in 3 months later. What I did on my own in THREE months he failed to do in 16 months!! DO NOT HIRE HIM!
Due to the Nature of Family Court, and typical Fathers Rights in family court, If you do your part, Mr. Ed Smith will be able to do his part the courtroom to get a successful ruling in best interest of you and your children. Your result may be different but…. Here is my story. Where it started: Jan_2017 Then-Wife disappeared with my kidz. Filed fictitious police report. Results: Feb_2017 I was arrested and released no further charges, represented myself in family court Without/Mr. Ed Smith. And my Exe was awarded an 18 year restraining order against me with no evidence. I hired Ed Smith 3.2017. Results: Removed TRO_ 09.2019 Settled Divorce W/Custody agreement_ 11.20219 Then after our agreement: Exe-Wife Absconded and secluded herself in another state for approximately 3 years. How its going: Custody battle finalized 11.2024_ Full custody Father – Mother Visitation Schedule. Mr. Smith persisted in reaching a successful decision against a litigious opposing party. Each case has its own anomalies, but I believe Ed Smith will be an asset to your Family court case and help you reach a successful ruling for you and your family.
