Try literally any other lawyer in Seattle. When going through an event like divorce, you want an attorney who is thoughtful, proactive, diligent. Tyler is none of those things. This is my first time going through this type of a process, so I had a lot of questions about the process and next steps. Several times Tyler became short and aggressive toward me, making me question whether I should continue with his services. I ultimately fell into the sunk cost fallacy that I'd already given him so much of my money, it had to be better to stick with him. I spent nearly $20,000 for this person to blindly forward me emails (including OOO emails from opposing council) or charge me $70 for 'Any update here?' status update emails (him sending these to the other legal team). He eventually brought on a paralegal that was $20 less than his full legal rate, however I never interacted with this person and his billing statements only reflected his rate. Tyler was unclear, unhelpful, and quite limited in the information he would share with me. Ultimately I ended up project managing the divorce on my own, outside of Tyler's council. I setup a mediation without Tyler present, because it had taken him over nine months to recommend it as a next step. I was asked to reach out to my ex to have them sign the final paperwork, versus having my attorney do this on my behalf. I secured a signature, then Tyler realized that changes needed to be made. Tyler charged me for 'case reviews' each week, including holidays, and when I asked him for documentation about these case reviews or anything that would help me understand what he was doing for the case, he failed to provide any documentation. This was just Tyler checking his inbox for no new emails. I was ultimately able to get to an agreement with my ex without Tyler's involvement, then Tyler charged me $3,000 to simply put this into documentation. When the negotiation came down to the final moments, Tyler used this time to extract more money from me, versus prioritizing an agreement. I'm not well-versed in this space but I have to assume that anyone else out there would do a better job than this human. Tyler never really made me feel like he was on my side. Again, go with any other attorney.

Tyler Merrill and his firm does what he says they will do. No waiting for days to hear back from him. He’s easy to talk to and explains things I don’t understand.
