Deveney emailed me she was going to close my case. I asked why and what that means. And then I got a bill for $181 For her to close out my case and said I’d be getting the rest of my retainer back via a check for over $700 that I had. I did not know I was going to be getting charged $181 to close my case. Unfortunately, I could not even email her this to stop charging my account otherwise, I would get charged for an email!!! So instead of emailing her back that I felt like this was like a scam to charge my account without me knowing I called into the office and talked to a gentleman. I told them I did not want be charged to close out my case I did not want be charged anything further without my knowledge! I said whatever I need to do to not get charged and refund the closing fee. I am open to not closing out my case if that means I won’t be charged and continuing on with the next lawyer and she already has all the information for my case and was aware of everything. I was okay leaving my retainer if that meant I wouldn’t get charged the $181. The gentleman on the phone has said that Devony is closing her firm and that may be why she’s closing my case. The gentleman said he would call me back and see what he could do. He never called me back. I then got an email from the new lawyer Kacye who is taking over The firm or starting her own firm. I got an email from Kayce showing she did some work on my case, useless more information I already had and did not want!! And then I got a bill for $500!! My head was about to explode. This was all taken out of my retainer, unfortunately! Even after I had asked them to stop charging me! I will be taking this up with the California bar if they do not refund me for unauthorized work and not returning my call or my request to stop charging me and refund me the original closing fee. I had over $800 in my account and now it says $150. Be careful if you have a retainer, they will find a way to use it!! Do not let them keep money in a retainer!! Do not let them take advantage of you!! This is a scam and poorly managed.

It was extremely important for me to work with a Black lawyer through my divorce given that my ex husband is white, our mediator was white, and his lawyer was white. I felt very outnumbered. Having a team who I didn't have to explain all of the racial nuances to made me feel safe and advocated for in the ways that were important to me. They did an amazing job with both the mediator and the opposing council, and helped me through some things that my last lawyer missed. Very responsive.

This is a best in town family law firm. I had a difficult divorce for my incarcerated child and they were more than willing to help us. They were wonderful during the whole process even with the extra steps that are needed. They kept us informed throughout the whole process. I also had them help with a name change and they did everything and I didn't have to worry about anything. I highly recommend them !
