I’ve had the privilege of working with Stegall & Clifford for many years and through countless closings, and they continue to impress me every single time. Their team is consistently responsive, incredibly knowledgeable, and brings a wealth of experience to every transaction. They give me full confidence—not only in my clients and their closings—but also in navigating the complications and unexpected situations that often arise in North Carolina real estate. Having Stegall & Clifford as a trusted partner makes all the difference, and I am truly grateful for their professionalism and expertise!
I recently closed on the sale of my home and had a very disappointing experience with this settlement company. The settlement check was supposed to be overnighted the same day the deed was recorded. I had confirmed my PO Box address weeks in advance, as well as the day before and the day of closing. After the deed recorded, I even received a phone call and an email stating the check had been overnighted. The following day, when I requested the tracking number, I learned the check had not been mailed at all. I had to chase them with multiple emails before finally calling the office myself. The representative refused to get on the phone, communicating only by email, and insisted they could not send to a PO Box. I explained that USPS guarantees priority delivery, and she agreed to send it USPS two-day mail. Instead, she sent it via USPS ground for $4, simply dropping it in a box instead of taking it to the post office. As a result, I didn’t receive my settlement check until 5 days later. They refunded the $50 overnight fee, but the lack of professionalism, misleading communication, and unwillingness to handle the matter properly left me with zero confidence in their services.
We had a terrible closing experience with this firm. We were the sellers, the buyers funds were there and the deed was being recorded electronically but they still held us hostage for over 2 hours before they gave us our proceed funds. Also, even though they were overnighting a the payoff funds to our existing mortgage company, they charged us 5 days interest "just in case"! What? It should have been one or the other, not both! Lastly, the didn't notify us of either of these things prior to arrival. I've never had a closing atty firm be so awful! Shame on them!
They were the attorney for a house I sold a few weeks ago. The process was smooth and easy. I ate like half their candy bowl when I was there to sign. 5/5 would use again.
I recently bought a house and used Stegall and Clifford to close. I had not received my bill for my Property taxes for 2024 and was curious why. I ended up calling up the county and found that the county thought my house was still owned by the previous owner and that owner was overdue and in default for not paying. The county stated that the law firm I used at closing (Stegall and Clifford) should have told me that I needed to make the switch in ownership with the county. They never did. But the town doesn’t care and now I’m having to pay a late fee for my taxes as a result of their mistake. I called them up and asked for an explanation and they rudely told me it’s common knowledge that a homeowner needs to do this and offered no support whatsoever. This was never told to me despite me hiring them for their help during closing of one of the biggest purchases of my life. I will no longer use this company again and I’ve told my realtor about my experience who has also stated she will no longer recommend them to future clients.
Thank you for a smooth, and seamless transaction! Communication and service were outstanding, and the overall process efficient. I can highly recommend this firm, and will use them again, should I need legal counsel down the road.
Brian was AWESOME! He walked my husband and I through our first closing as first time homeowners. He was able to answer any question we threw at him and he had the best personality. The team was very responsive and communicated with us throughout the entire process. Would definitely recommend!!
